This summer a small group of Trail Monsters and some of our most qualified friends will be taking on Maine’s 100 Mile Wilderness, one of the most remote sections of the entire Appalachian Trail:

CAUTION
IT IS 100 MILES SOUTH TO THE NEAREST TOWN AT MONSON. THERE ARE NO PLACES TO OBTAIN SUPPLIES OR HELP UNTIL MONSON. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS SECTION UNLESS YOU HAVE A MINIMUM OF 10 DAYS SUPPLIES AND ARE FULLY EQUIPPED. THIS IS THE LONGEST WILDERNESS SECTION OF THE ENTIRE A.T. AND ITS DIFFICULTY SHOULD NOT BE UNDERESTIMATED.
GOOD HIKING!
M.A.T.C.

This is not a race, but we’re going out to attempt to set a new speed record on this section of trail. Last year three runners covered the 100 Mile Wilderness in 39.5 hours, which is the fastest know time. Although each runner planning to take part in this run has completed 50 mile races, and most have finished 100 milers, this run has the unique challenge of very limited opportunity for support. Each runner will be responsible for providing their own crew, to look out for their needs and get them off the trail in the likely event they can’t finish.

Local WCSH6 reporter Bill Green recently interviewed a few of us during a run at Bradbury:
